Releases Dual-Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor Based
Digital Media Workstation with Dual NVIDIA® SLI Graphics
Irvine,
CA, May 19, 2005 – Today, ThinkCP announced the release of
their latest Digital Media Workstation, the ThinkTank IQ™
SLI-X2, incorporating 2 (two) Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ processors
claimed by AMD to be the… “Best performing two-way and
four-way x86 server and workstation processors in the industry.”
AMD backs the claim with industry standard benchmarks at http://www.amd.com/opteronperformance
By literally combining two separate processors within a single CPU
chip, the dual-core AMD Opteron processor increases computing capacity
and minimizes energy requirements within the same physical footprint
space as a conventional x86CPU. This approach provides increased
productivity within the same infrastructure that companies are currently
using. The dual-core processors also leverage AMD’s DCA (Direct
Connect Architecture) providing superior performance for operating
systems and applications leveraging multi-threading or symmetric
multi-processing (SMP). ThinkCP is currently providing Microsoft,
Sun and Red Hat Linux 64 bit operating systems developed for the
new dual core AMD Opteron processors which provide immediate performance
gains even for users of current 32-bit applications.
For even greater graphics performance, the ThinkTankIQ™ SLI-X2
incorporates NVIDIA’s SLI (Scalable Link Interface) technology.
The SLI technology “marries” the GPUs enabling synchronized,
intelligent data protocols for GPU-to-GPU inter-communication, load
balancing and what amounts essentially to virtualization of the
available GPU resources for applications designed to fully utilize
the technology. The adapters are further enhanced by the PCI-Express
host interface and DCA technology yielding nearly direct CPU to
GPU communications access.
The workstation delivers the best price/performance ratios available
in an X86 based platform for the demanding requirements of digital
content creation, mechanical and electrical design, financial analysis,
3-D modeling, imagery and engineering applications such as oil &
gas, EDA, scientific visualization and CFD.
The ThinkTankIQ™ SLI-X2 base configuration is integrated using
two Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processors, Model 265 (upgradeable
to Models 270 or 275), two NVIDIA Quadro FX1400, PCI-X Graphics
Boards w/SLI bridge, 4GB memory, 2x250Gb SATA Drives in a 4U rackmountable
tower chassis with dual 645watt redundant power supplies. The ThinkTankIQ™
SLI-X2 was street priced at $5,889 at the time of this release.
Exact specifications are online at http://www.thinkcp.com/products/TankQstationSLI-X2.asp.
