SIMM/168-PIN DIMM
Quick Installation Guide
The following information is provided for individuals who
are familiar with working
inside computer systems. For more detailed information, please
refer to your
computers owner's manual. Unless you are extremely confident
in your installation
abilities, it is best to have computer memory installed by
an authorized service
profesional. ThinkCP™ Technologies will not be responsible
for damages caused
due to improper installation of memory components.
General Precautions:
- Turn
off the computer and disconnect the AC power cord, and
any other external peripherals.
- Remove
the computer's cover following the instructions located
in your systems owner's manual.
- Before
installing RAM, discharge yourself of static electricity
by
grounding yourself to a metal object, such as the casing
of your
computer system.
- Locate
the area where the RAM is to be installed in the computer
system, and remove any peripherals that may be blocking
or
hindering access to the sockets.
- SIMMs/DIMMs
must only be handled by their edges, and should
not be handled by the chips themselves.
- Remove
any existing RAM, if necessary to install the new
memory products.
- 72-Pin
memory must generally be installed in pairs for Pentium
based systems, 168-Pin memory may be installed 1 at a time.

72-Pin
Memory Installation:
- Align
the metal connectors of the memory module with the metal
connectors
of the SIMM socket on the motherboard. Be sure that the
SIMM is aligned
properly and that all pins line up properly. If the SIMM
does not fit, turn it
around.
- SIMMs
are keyed and will only fit in the proper orientation.
- Insert
the module at a 45 degree angle and carefully grasp the
two ends
of the module and gently snap into place in the upright
position.
- Check
to make sure both retaining posts have locked onto the module,
and are holding it securely in place.
- Repeat
the above procedure until all modules have been installed.
- Replace
the computer cover and reattach cables and peripherals.
- Update
the computer's memory configuration if necessary according
to the computers owner's manual

DIMM
Memory Installation
- Allign
the metal connectors of the memory module with the metal connectors
of the DIMM socket on the motherboard. Be sure that the DIMM
is aligned properly
and that all pins line up properly. If the DIMM does not fit,
turn it around. DIMMs
are keyed and will only fit in the proper orientation
- Make
sure DIMM socket retaining clips are in the unlocked position.
Firmly press the DIMM down into the socket and lock the retaining
clips int place.
- Repeat
the above procedure until all modules have been installed.
- Replace
the computer cover and reattach cables and peripherals.
- Update
the computer's memory configuration if necessary according
to
the computers owner's manual.
