The Open-E Data Storage Software V6 Lite (DSS V6 Lite) is a FREE version of Open-E DSS V6 delivering unified file and block storage management operating system (OS) with Network Attached Storage (NAS) and Storage Area Network (SAN) functionality. In order to evaluate free product, licensed for 2TB of storage simply register and download at our portal and get up to 10 versions at a time! Minimum Hardware Requirements: • x86 - compatible PC • 2 GByte RAM (4 GByte RAM is recommended) • CPU (1 GHz or faster are recommended) • HDD (SATA, SAS, SCSI, ATA) / iSCSI Storage • Network Interface Card Open-E DSS V6 Lite Features ADMINISTRATION Unlimited number of users Regardless of the number of users connected to the storage device, Open-E license schema is a one license per DSS V6 Lite and is priced accordingly. Web-based Graphical User Interface The powerful and convenient Web-based GUI (Graphical User Interface) of the Open-E DSS V6 Lite software makes remote management of the server a simple task. By using a web-browser, the server can be easily managed from anywhere in the network. Multi Language User Interface Open-E DSS V6 Lite provides Language Packs in English, German, Chinese, Russian and Japanese to give users the ability to install and administer the system in the language of their choice. Secure Administration Access Open-E DSS V6 Lite is accessed and configured through a web-based, password-protected GUI over Secured Socket Layer (SSL) administration access. Tuning Tools The performance of the Open-E DSS V6 Lite server can be increased by changing the settings of disk, network, file system or network using "Tuning Tools". Remote Access for Console The Open-E DSS V6 Lite supports remote access of the console tool enabling management of the server from anywhere in the network. Multiple Snapshot (Multiple Active Snapshots Per One LV At A Time) Open-E DSS V6 Lite supports multiple snapshots per logical volumes. Snapshot is an immediate point-in-time image of the logical volume. The snapshot images can be used for both consistent and temporary backup, while users still have uninterrupted and complete access to the LV. Files can be recovered from previous snapshots should a file be accidentally deleted or modified. Multiple Logical Volumes and Groups Logical volume groups allow storage administrators to create logical storage pools that span multiple physical disk drives. With its support of multiple logical volume groups, the Open-E DSS V6 Lite makes it easier to meet the changing needs of users and applications while making the maximum use of available physical disk space. Online Logical Volume Expansion Online logical volume expansion allows administrators to change the size of storage volumes as needed without having to restart the application, recreate the volume, and backup and restore data to the volume. Support for Online Capacity Expansion A hardware RAID controllers' expansion capability supports the increase of size of existing units without removing data. SPECIFIC NAS FUNCTIONALITY Windows Active Directory / Primary Domain Controller Open-E DSS V6 Lite supports ADS (Windows Active Directory), PDC (Primary Domain Controller), LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol). The support of Access Control List (ACL) ensures that access rights of users are automatically taken over from the Domain. Open-E DSS V6 Lite supports Windows 2008 as a Domain Controller. If you use Active Directory Services from Windows 2008, Open-E DSS V6 Lite will be able to connect and make use of it. Internal and External LDAP The Open-E DSS V6 Lite supports external LDAP enabling administrators to configure and manage multiple DSS V6 Lite systems from one single point (either an Open-E software with a LDAP database or any other LDAP server). Antivirus Open-E DSS V6 Lite has an integrated Antivirus software tool for scanning shares on viruses at predefined points in time. IP Address Restrictions for a Target Open-E DSS V6 Lite allows to set up range of IP addresses which have the access to targets. CHAP User Management In Open-E DSS V6 Lite, CHAP users can be assigned to a specific iSCSI target. CHAP is an authentication schema, managed by user name and password, to validate the identity of users to manage the access rights of users to targets. Session Management The Open-E DSS V6 Lite allows management of all connections to the iSCSI target, making possible to reject unwanted sessions BACKUP UTILITY Local Backup Through Open-E DSS V6 Lite, a local HDD or a USB drive can be defined as a Dynamic Unit and acts like a normal tape drive which can backup the NAS server and be removed without shutting down the server. Integrated Backup System The Open-E DSS V6 Lite includes integrated backup utilty, allowing users to profit form high functionality backup features including: task mechanism with schedules, virtual tapes, tape library Support - without any additional costs. Virtual Tapes Configure tape drive emulation on share or Dynamic Volume (e.g. dynamically attached hard drive) backup for tape drives is the same as backup on virtual tapes. OTHER Installable Version Open-E DSS V6 Lite is an installable version and can be installed hard drive or pen drive module providing for increased flexibility and simplified access. Setup Wizard The first time Open-E DSS V6 Lite starts the Setup Wizard assists you with the language, network and time settings. Help eature with search and index New, improved help system allows browsing and searching through all help files, making administration of Open-E DSS V6 Lite even simpler. Extended Save and Restore Settings Open-E DSS V6 Lite allows saving the system configuration and restore if it required even on different Open-E server increasing the reliability and simplifying the management. Connections Status Displays information about current connections to the Open-E DSS V6 Lite system. Remote Support (On Demand) Open-E DSS V6 Lite includes Remote Support which enables our Support Service to access the machine remotely. In many cases this can help speed problem resolution. For security reasons this function can only be initiated by you manually. Initially Supported 2 TB Storage Capacity Storage capacity of Open-E DSS V6 Lite can be increased with additional License Keys. Storage Extensions Support (2/4/8/16/32 TB) License Key enabling additional Storage Capacity with additional 2, 4, 8, 16 or 32 TB depending on used License Key. The storage limit is turned off when 48TB of licensed capacity is reached. You can buy any of the Open-E DSS V6 versions and purchase additional storage license keys. When you reach 48TB, the limit is removed and you can use as much storage space as the product supports. Upgrade Ability License Key enabling additional Storage Capacity with additional 4, 8, 16 or 32 TB depending on used License Key.
